The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, also known as the MBTI, is a widely-popular personality measure based on a loose interpretation of the theories of Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung, as described in Psychological Types (1921).
According to the theory behind the MBTI, people differ in their orientation to the external vs. inner world and their preferences for cognitive functions used to receive and process information. The MBTI claims to assess these orientations and preferences, which classify individuals into one of 16 different personality types.
The MBTI is typically used in corporate environments and other professional settings. The MTBI and Myers-Briggs Type Indicator are registered trademarks of the Myers & Briggs Foundation.
TraitLab provides a comprehensive analysis of personality traits, career interests, interpersonal style, and character strengths based on peer-reviewed, publically accessible research.
TraitLab gradually combines information from hundreds of highly specific traits to build a more complete personality profile. Your TraitLab profile contains the same information from popular personality type measures like the MBTI and much, much more.
Anyone can get started with TraitLab right now by creating a free account.
Nobody fits into a single type. TraitLab measures over 80 different dimensions to identify your pattern of personality traits, career interests, interpersonal style, and character strengths.
While millions of people have similar results from the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), your TraitLab results are unique to you and you alone.
TraitLab estimates your unique ranking of character strengths, clarifying where you naturally feel engaged and enthusiastic, and then suggests ways to use your strengths in everyday life.
Unlike the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), TraitLab goes beyond your general personality. Instead, TraitLab explains how your personality translates into character strengths, which you can leverage in your personal and professional life.
Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) types do not easily map to particular careers or occupational areas, making it difficult to use your personality type to compare and contrast potential career paths.
With TraitLab, you can easily compare your profile across hundreds of occupations, learn about your relative strengths in each of them, and better understand the trade-offs and opportunities behind different career paths.
Personality "types" tend to be very broad. As a result, two people with identical types from the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) may still have dramatically different styles of interacting socially.
TraitLab includes a far more detailed analysis of your interpersonal style, which describes your natural tendencies in social interactions, as well as associated opportunities and challenges.

Most online assessments are not based on real published research, so you can't connect your results to useful information about habits, career, relationships, and other practical aspects of your life.

TraitLab was created by me, Greg Park, Ph.D. Hi!
Before starting TraitLab, I spent many years researching psychological measurement and prediction methods at Vanderbilt University (graduate work) and University of Pennsylvania (postdoc research). I'm also a huge geek for all things related to personality.
I made TraitLab to make it easier for you to find reliable, valid, and scientifically-supported personality assessments.
I'm always updating TraitLab to make it more useful and interesting. If you have questions, comments, or suggestions, please let me know. I'd love to hear from you!
